Jennifer Yen’s journey from actress to multi-brand beauty founder is more than a tale of transformation—it’s a powerful narrative of resilience, heritage, and purpose. She rose to fame as the villainess “Vypra” on the hit TV show Power Rangers, and while the role made her a household name, the long days in heavy stage makeup, under bright studio lights, and through grueling combat scenes took a serious toll on her skin.

Jennifer battled with persistent acne, breakouts, and eczema. “I tried everything,” she recalls, but nothing worked—until she returned to her Asian heritage for answers. By leaning into beauty rituals passed down through generations, Jennifer not only healed her skin but uncovered the foundation for a whole new career path.
This epiphany sparked the launch of her first brand, pūrlisse—a skincare line inspired by traditional Asian beauty wisdom, reimagined for the modern world. Since then, she has carved a formidable space in the beauty industry with three powerhouse brands: pūrlisse, YENSA, and most recently, JooY.
As a first-generation Asian American, Jennifer’s entrepreneurial path is deeply shaped by her cultural roots.
“My identity as an Asian American woman is deeply rooted in the beauty rituals passed down from my grandmother and mother,” Jennifer shares. “Their natural, holistic practices laid the foundation for my passion, and today, I carry that legacy forward by combining ancient wisdom with modern skincare science.”

Motherhood brought another round of skin challenges—and another innovation. YENSA was born from Jennifer’s desire for “Skincare-First Beauty” that merges ancient Asian superfoods with high-performance makeup.

“I wanted makeup that works as hard as skincare,” she explains.
YENSA’s signature 8 SuperBlacks Essence, featuring ingredients like Black Sesame Oil and Shiitake Mushroom, embodies that vision—providing glow-enhancing benefits while honoring Jennifer’s cultural lineage.

Her newest venture, JooY, is especially personal.
“I was struggling with heavy hair shedding and wanted to bring scalp health to the forefront,” she says.
Inspired by fermented superfoods celebrated in Asian cultures, JooY champions scalp-first self-care and represents Jennifer’s commitment to whole-body beauty—starting from the root.
This deep reverence for heritage pulses through all her brands. But the path hasn’t been easy.
“When I started, it was rare to see AAPI women in leadership roles in beauty. It felt like we were invisible,” she recalls.
“But that absence became a call to action. I saw an opportunity to create something meaningful, something rooted in culture, authenticity, and real solutions.”
Jennifer’s pivot from Hollywood to entrepreneurship wasn’t just a career shift—it was a reclamation of her story.
